Hon. Longers Anyanwu has formally declared his intention to contest the Okigwe Senatorial Zone seat in the 2027 general election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while dismissing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as dead on arrival in Imo State.
The APC chieftain made the declaration despite the political euphoria that followed last week’s announcement by Mr. Peter Obi, who pitched his political tent with the ADC ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, insisting that the party has no political future in Imo State.
Anyanwu made these assertions on Friday while hosting a well-attended political sensitization meeting of critical APC stakeholders at his ancestral compound in the politically conscious and populous Amuzi Ward of Obowo Local Government Area, Imo State.
According to the astute politician, popularly known as Ebubedike Obowo, “I sympathize with ADC, Peter Obi’s new political party, because they have arrived late—more so, dead on arrival.
“Our people have comfortably boarded the APC train, and the party is already on a safe and victorious cruise in Imo State and other South-East states,” he said.
Anyanwu further expressed gratitude to APC members in his ward for their steadfastness, large-heartedness, and openness in accommodating new members and absorbing members of other opposition political parties into the APC.
Party leaders present at the meeting reported that Obowo Local Government Area is about 95 per cent APC compliant.

However, Anyanwu expressed disappointment over what he described as a lack of political foresight among a few individuals from the council area, particularly those in the diaspora, who still believe they are in opposition through what he termed “phantom opposition clubs called political parties.”
The highlight of the high-profile meeting was Anyanwu’s formal declaration to contest the Okigwe Senatorial Zone seat under the APC in the next political dispensation.
His declaration received a resounding endorsement from all in attendance, including APC ward executives, councillors, LGA executives, the LGA council chairman, Princess Nkechi Anyanwu, Chief Mrs. Igwe (Ugosimba), and veteran politicians such as Chief Longinus Imocha Anyanwu, Chief Mathew Okoo, and several other party leaders.
