2021/22 season: NWFL Nationwide League kicks off on April 22

The Nationwide League of the National Women Football League (NWFL) is set for a new 2021/22 season on Friday, 22 April, 2022 with the opening matches to be played in Benin City, Edo State, The Trumpet reports.

The opening matches will take place at the Western Boys Stadium and School of Health Technology Stadium.

According to the statement by the General Co-ordinator of the Nigeria Women Football League Nationwide League, Sir Joe Amene, sixteen clubs from across the country are to battle for two promotion tickets to the NWFL Championship, The Trumpet gathered.

The football administrator assured fans and football lovers around the country of the determination of the league management to ensure matches are properly officiated by providing meticulous referees.

He said, “Now is the time for the NWFL Nationwide to showcase what they are worth, as they storm Benin City to forge their progress to the NWFL Championship and bid farewell to the amateur cadre of the women’s football league in Nigeria.

“It would be complete fireworks in Benin City, as 16 NWFL Nationwide League clubs battle for two promotion tickets. And we are going to be very meticulous in our choice of officiating referees for the league in our drive to ensure the best teams gain promotion to the NWFL Championship,” he added

The sixteen teams divided into four groups (A1, A2, B1, B2) comprising four teams each are Lakeside Queens FC, Abruka Queens FC, Celestial Queens FC and Ijebu United Queens in Group A1.Papa Soccer Academy, Ekiti Queens FC, Delta Babes FC and Society Teen Girls FC are in Group A2.

Furthermore, Unification Queens FC, Imo Strikers FC, Brave Hearts Queens and Ubalaka Queens make up Group B1, while P. Kassim Eletu Queens, FC Niger Amazons, Fortress Queens FC and Castmog FA completed Group B2.

Amene added that the NWFL Nationwide League will start with a technical meeting on April 22, while matches officially kick off on April 23,
