An 18-year-old man, identified as Abdullahi Aminu, has died after falling into a pond at Kofar Gabas in Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State.
Spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif, in a statement on Wednesday, said the sad incident occurred on Tuesday.
He explained that the agency received a distress call at about 3:28pm from Aminu Lawan, who reported that his son had fallen into a pond.
He said firefighters from the Danbatta Fire Station immediately mobilised to the scene following the distress call.
“The victim was found unconscious after being recovered from the pond by the rescue team. Unfortunately, he was later confirmed dead,” Yusif said.

He added that the remains of the deceased were subsequently handed over to the Secretary to the District Head of Danbatta, Baba Ado Sarkin Bai, for further necessary action.
While sympathizing with the family of the deceased, the fire service urged residents to exercise extreme caution around ponds, waterways and other bodies of water, particularly during the current period.
