Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the release of ₦40.8 million annually as Educational Social Assistance for 204 vulnerable youths from Bama who recently gained admission into Kashim Shettima University.
The Borno State Social Investment Programme (BO-SIMP) on Wednesday held an official cheque presentation ceremony at its headquarters in Maiduguri to flag off the initiative.
Speaking at the event, BO-SIMP General Manager, Dr. Lawan Amdan, said the intervention forms part of Governor Zulum’s broader post-insurgency recovery and social support efforts aimed at rebuilding affected communities and empowering young people.
He explained that each beneficiary will receive ₦200,000 per year, with funds paid directly into individual bank accounts to ensure accountability and transparency.

Dr. Amdan added that the beneficiaries were selected through the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Bama Chapter, underscoring the administration’s commitment to grassroots engagement and support for resilient youths pursuing education despite years of security challenges.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the beneficiaries, Chairman of NYCN Bama Chapter, Comrade Zannah Abba Lawan, thanked Governor Zulum for his continuous support to Bama youths and pledged strict monitoring of the beneficiaries to ensure effective use of the funds.
He also commended BO-SIMP’s leadership for its coordination and consistent delivery of social interventions.
Grateful beneficiaries and their parents lauded Governor Zulum for what they described as a life-changing opportunity, promising to remain committed to their studies and uphold the trust placed in them.
