Vehicular movements were temporarily obstructed in Wukari local government council of Taraba state as youths kick against the confirmation of the former chairman of the council, Dr Daniel Adigrace as the council Caretaker committee chairman.

The confirmation, which did not go down well with the people, was observed to have led to protests, the situation which briefly paralyzes business activities.

The state House of Assembly, it would be recalled, on Wednesday confirmed the names of the selected caretaker chairmen of the sixteen councils forwarded to them by the state Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku.

The caretaker chairman, whom The Trumpet gathered to have been among the council’s chairmen who were earlier asked to step aside following the expiration of their tenure in office was however returned as a caretaker committee chairman, the action which people vehemently frowned at.

Piqued by the development, the people, who are made of various youth groups, were said to have embarked on a protest in the council on Wednesday demanding for his immediate removal.

Wondering why the governor has gone ahead to return the former chairman whom they described as “a failure” the need for the governor to as a matter of urgency bring in “a better replacement” they said has become necessary.

The protest which led to the blocking of major roads in Wukari, the administrative headquarters of the council, was also noticed to have led to the massive destruction of billboards belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Some of the protesters who spoke with our state correspondent via telephone expressed their sadness at the state government’s decision to return the former chairman who, according to them, failed to carry the people of the council along during his past tenure.

Citing how he was alleged to have made life difficult for the people in the past, allowing him to further preside over the affairs of the council, the people believed, would no doubt portend danger for the area.

In a swift reaction, the caretaker chairman who spoke with our correspondent via telephone agreed that there was a protest over his confirmation but quickly noticed that those that embarked on the protest were the aggrieved ones whose dreams of ascending the position turned out to be a mirage.

Making references to the excitement and celebration that erupted in the council following his confirmation, those that embarked on the protest, according to ” are very few” adding that “they did that because they were angry for not being selected.”

Adigrace who went ahead to forward the Video clips of the excitement and celebration that erupted in the council to our state correspondent via WhatsApp said he will not cease from carrying all the people of the council along, irrespective of religious and political affiliations.
