A coalition of youth groups in Yobe East Senatorial District has raised N188 million in a fundraising initiative aimed at supporting the 2027 governorship ambition of former Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.
The fundraising effort, spearheaded by the Coalition of Yobe East Progressive Youths under the leadership of Mohammed Yerima, drew contributions from a broad cross-section of residents across the state.
According to a preliminary report released on Sunday, the funds were generated through a mix of pledges, cash donations, and bank transfers..
The initiative is specifically targeted at financing the purchase of nomination and expression of interest forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead of the 2027 Yobe State governorship election.
In a statement issued on Monday, Sen. Lawan expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, describing it as a powerful demonstration of civic responsibility and grassroots engagement.
He noted that beyond the impressive total raised, the true significance of the effort lies in the widespread participation of ordinary citizens.

A notable feature of the fundraising campaign, according to the statement, was the volume of small-scale contributions, with many donors giving between N100 and N3,000.
Lawan highlighted this as evidence of strong community ownership, pointing out that individuals from diverse backgrounds including students, traders, and apprentices—had contributed within their means.
“This reflects a collective belief in a shared vision for a more inclusive, transparent, and accountable government,” he said.
The former Senate president also commended the leadership of the coalition, emphasizing that the initiative represents a shift toward citizen-driven political participation in Yobe State.
Observers say the development underscores growing political mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections, with youth-led organizations increasingly playing a central role in shaping the state’s political landscape.
The fundraising campaign is still ongoing, with organizers expressing optimism that more contributions will be received in the coming weeks.
