Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni has ordered the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to conduct a thorough assessment of the damage caused by the fire outbreak at the Bayan Tasha Market in Damaturu.
Director General, Media and Press Affairs to the governor, Mamman Mohammed, said in a statement on Tuesday that the governor was shocked and saddened by the occurrence.
To enhance preparedness and prevent similar incidents in the future, Gov. Buni has mandated that the fire service department remains on high alert throughout the harmattan season.

He therefore directed SEMA’s Director General, Dr. Mohammed Goje, to analyse the level of damage to businesses, market stalls, and other property, including the number of shops, traders, and the projected value of losses.
Consoling the victims of the fire incident, Gov. Buni added that “as Muslim faithfuls, nothing happens to any believer, except with the knowledge of our creator, God.”
He urged the traders and residents to take proactive measures against fire outbreaks, particularly during the harmattan season.
