The Yobe State government has inaugurated a committee to oversee the distribution of 3,500 laptops to civil servants under a loan scheme designed to boost digital capacity across the public service.
The Head of Civil Service, Abdullahi Musa Shehu, who was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Hamidu Isa Babi, said the initiative reflects the administration’s continued commitment to improving the welfare and efficiency of workers.
Shehu emphasized that the policy aligns with the vision of Governor Mai Mala Buni, whose administration, since 2019, has focused on prompt salary payments, capacity-building programmes, and institutional reforms, including succession planning across ministries, departments, and agencies.
According to him, the laptop scheme recently approved by the state government, will provide 3,500 units at a cost of N340,000 each.
Beneficiaries are expected to repay the loan through monthly deductions of N19,000 over an 18-month period, with no direct financial burden on the government.
He noted that the committee was constituted to ensure transparency, fairness, and strict compliance with the scheme’s guidelines.
Its duties include designing application forms, verifying applicants’ eligibility, processing submissions, and presenting a list of qualified beneficiaries for approval.
The committee will also collaborate with the Ministry of Finance to ensure proper loan repayment deductions.
The committee is chaired by Shuaibu Ibrahim K. Amshi, with Comrade Mukhtar Tarbutu, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, serving as co-chairman.
