Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has announced his intention to contest the Kogi Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Bello made the declaration during a visit to the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, where he met with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders from the district.
A video of the visit, including his declaration, was later shared on his verified Facebook page.
While addressing the gathering, Bello openly accepted calls to run for the Senate in 2027.
Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, attended the event alongside party leaders and community representatives.
Reports said Gov. Ododo appealed to Bello to respond to requests from party members and constituents who want him to represent the district at the National Assembly.

Bello, who served as governor from 2016 to 2024, remains a major figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Okehi Local Government Area, Amoka Eneji, congratulated Bello for declaring his ambition, describing him as a leader who worked for the unity and development of the Ebira people.
The Kogi Central Senate seat is currently occupied by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who was elected in 2023 and became the first woman to represent the district in the Senate.
