‘Why IDU declared support for NNPP’s guber candidate’s bid’

By Kelvin Ohoror

Isoko Development Union (IDU) has declared unflinching support for the gubernatorial candidate of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Dr. Goodnews Agbi, to become the governor of Delta State next year.

This was made known during a consultation meeting at Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.

President General of the apex socio-cultural organisation of the oil-rich ethnic nationality world-wide, Prof. Chris Akpotu, said that IDU is supporting Agbi as an illustrious son of Isoko with a great pedigree and credibility.

According to him, “Dr. Agbi is not only sincere, focused and honest but very reliable, speaks the truth as it is and dependable. His antecedents speak volumes.

“We represent the Isoko people, we represent the interests of the Isoko people. Gone are the days when the Isoko people and their interest are demeaned or where one or two Isoko sons are given appointments which serve their individual and not the interest of the Isoko people and hence they are incapable of saying the truth about shortcomings in Isoko nation. And they cannot tell their paymaster the truth.”

Earlier, Agbi said he had come to intimate the Isoko nationof his interest to run the governorship race.

He added: “The Isoko people should support me, not only because I am the only governorship candidate from Isoko extraction but that the Isoko people should trust me. I will defend their interest and will never take any decision or decisions that will be personal or inimical to the Isoko nation.

“My antecedents as guarantee that when the chips are down and implicative decisions on the guber campaign are to be taken, I will revert to the IDU. I will come here and we shall collectively take the decisions that will be beneficial to the Isoko people.

“Let me reiterate with emphasis, I will come here and we shall jointly take the decisions at this place, the Isoko Development Union, Unity House. I can assure you, now that INEC has announced me into the Delta State governorship space, Isoko would never be taken for granted again. Mr. President, allow me to lead us to a new political dawn and Isoko people will forever be grateful to you and this your regime

“For long Isoko has been taken for granted, where, every candidate and their political party had come to harvest votes since 1999, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019 till date. Isoko North and South have collectively provided the winning votes without commensurate recognition.

“I have come to change the narratives. We will work together and lead Isoko out of this negative political profiling. We shall look at them at the face, eyeball to eyeball and extract from the state what is rightfully and legitimately due to the Isoko people,” he stated
