The Delta State Police Command has intensified efforts to dismantle a notorious kidnap gang terrorizing the Ogwashi-Uku axis of the state.
Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, assured residents that the command is closing in on the criminals and will restore peace to the area.
Speaking on Friday, at the Government House, Asaba, after the decoration of seven officers in the governor’s security team, CP Abaniwonda revealed that tactical teams and additional personnel have been deployed to address the spate of kidnappings in the area.
“We are on the trail of the hoodlums responsible for the recent kidnappings in Ogwashi-Uku. One or two suspects have already been apprehended, and we will ensure the entire gang is dismantled. Peace will be fully restored to the area,” he stated.
The police commissioner acknowledged the challenges posed by criminals but reiterated the command’s resolve to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“Just as we have brought other criminals to book, this gang will not escape. Our tactical teams are working tirelessly to ensure they are apprehended,” he added.
CP Abaniwonda emphasized that the Delta State Police Command’s proactive approach, which ensured a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebrations will be sustained across the state.
He credited early planning, collaboration with communities, and undisclosed security measures for the success achieved during the festive period.
The police commissioner also linked the command’s efforts to the directives of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who tasked police commissioners to reduce crime to a specific percentage in 2025.
“The inspector general of police’s directive was clear—security and crime must be brought down to the barest minimum. We are implementing measures to achieve this, and Delta residents can rest assured that their safety remains our top priority,” he said.
CP Abaniwonda urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with the police by providing timely information that can assist in the fight against crime.
