The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a delay in the release of the 2025 WASSCE results for school candidates, citing technical issues uncovered during its internal review process. This unexpected setback affects thousands of candidates across Nigeria who sat for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) earlier this year.
According to a statement released by the council’s Public Affairs Department on August 7, 2025, the delay was caused by bugs discovered in the new paper serialization process, a recent innovation introduced to curb exam malpractice and improve assessment standards. While the process aligns with national examination protocols, it triggered inconsistencies in the marking and grading of crucial subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.
As a result of these glitches, WAEC has temporarily suspended access to the WASSCE 2025 results on its official result checker portal. The council reassured candidates and stakeholders that the issues are being addressed with urgency and professionalism, and promised that the corrected results will be available within the next 24 hours. Candidates who may have previously accessed their results are strongly advised to recheck after this window.

WAEC expressed sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused, emphasizing its unwavering commitment to excellence, transparency, and fairness in the conduct and release of examination outcomes. The council also thanked the public for its patience and continued trust in its operations.
The announcement, signed by Acting Head of Public Affairs, Movoola Adesina, came from WAEC’s Lagos National Office, highlighting the council’s proactive steps to resolve the matter swiftly.
Candidates and parents are encouraged to stay alert for further updates and revalidate their results once the corrections are completed.
