US Stocks Rise as Nasdaq Hits Record
The U.S. stock market opened the week on a stronger footing, with technology and communication stocks providing much of the upward momentum.
The Nasdaq Composite climbed about 1% during Monday’s session, reaching a new record, while the S&P 500 gained roughly 0.7% and moved closer to its previous high. The Dow also advanced modestly.
The gains came despite continued pressure from elevated borrowing costs and Treasury yields, suggesting that investors remained willing to buy technology and growth stocks even as concerns over inflation and interest rates persisted.
Nvidia, Meta, Microsoft and Tesla Lead Technology Rally
Large technology companies were among the main drivers of the market’s advance.
Nvidia moved higher and approached the record level reached in the previous session. Meta, Microsoft and Tesla also posted gains, helping the technology and communication sectors outperform several other parts of the market.
The rally reflects continued investor interest in companies benefiting from artificial intelligence, cloud computing and data-centre investment.
However, elevated bond yields remain a potential challenge for high-growth technology stocks because higher interest rates can reduce the relative attractiveness of future earnings.
PTC Shares Surge After $22.6 Billion Schneider Electric Deal
PTC was the biggest corporate market mover of the session after Schneider Electric announced an agreement to acquire the Boston-based industrial-software company.
Schneider will pay $205 in cash for each PTC share, valuing PTC’s equity at approximately $22.6 billion and the transaction’s enterprise value at about $23.7 billion.
The offer represents a 42.3% premium over PTC’s previous closing price.
PTC shares subsequently jumped by more than 30%, while the transaction became one of the biggest software acquisitions announced in 2026.
Schneider Electric Targets Industrial Software and AI Growth
Schneider Electric described the acquisition as part of its strategy to expand its industrial software and artificial-intelligence capabilities.
The company said the transaction would create a broader portfolio covering industrial intelligence, engineering software and digital solutions.
The deal is expected to close by the third quarter of 2027, subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals.
Schneider said the acquisition would also strengthen its ability to combine industrial technology with AI-enabled software solutions as businesses increase spending on automation and digital transformation.
Treasury Yields Remain Near Multi-Year Highs
The stock market gains came as Treasury yields remained elevated.
The 10-year Treasury yield rose to about 5.34%, a level close to a two-decade high, according to market reporting.
High yields have created a complicated backdrop for equities because they increase borrowing costs and can make bonds more attractive relative to stocks.
Investors are also watching the Federal Reserve closely after recent labour-market data influenced expectations about the path of interest rates.

Oil Prices Ease After G7 Reserve Release
Oil prices moved lower as markets assessed the G7’s decision to release emergency fuel reserves.
G7 countries agreed to coordinate the release of 100 million barrels of oil and refined fuel products through the International Energy Agency over four months, with a substantial diesel release to be front-loaded during the first 20 days.
The move is aimed at increasing market supplies and helping stabilise energy prices following a sharp rise in fuel costs.
Brent crude was trading around the $100-a-barrel level on Monday, while U.S. crude prices also eased during the session.
G7 Rejects Energy Export Restrictions
The reserve release followed concerns over energy supplies and a push by the Trump administration for G7 countries to use their strategic reserves.
The G7 also committed to avoiding energy export restrictions among member countries as part of the effort to stabilise global energy markets.
The coordinated release is relatively small compared with global oil consumption, but traders have nevertheless treated it as an additional source of near-term supply.
US Market Rally Faces Interest Rate and Oil Risks
The combination of strong technology earnings expectations, major corporate deals and enthusiasm around artificial intelligence helped support US stocks on Monday.
However, elevated Treasury yields, inflation concerns and uncertainty over energy prices remain important risks for investors.
The market will now turn its attention to upcoming economic data, corporate earnings and signals from the Federal Reserve for clues about whether the current rally can continue.
