A fresh wave of civil unrest has been reported in Kuchibyi community, located under the Byazin Division of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following a heated land dispute that escalated into violence on Friday.
The FCT Police Command confirmed the incident in an official statement, revealing that it received a distress call and immediately deployed officers from the Byazin and Kubwa Divisions to quell the situation.
It said the swift intervention by the divisional police officers helped bring the situation under control, with multiple arrests made at the scene.
An investigation is currently ongoing to determine the root causes and identify all those involved in inciting or participating in the unrest.
In response to misinformation circulating online, the police clarified that the situation was purely a communal land dispute and not linked to any police operation or misconduct.
“It is important to clarify that the issue is a communal dispute and not in any way related to the police,” said Ajao Adewale, Commissioner of Police, FCT Command.
Adewale strongly condemned the attacks on police officers who were deployed to restore peace in the troubled area, warning that the command will not tolerate any form of assault on security personnel.
“We will take firm action against anyone who attacks police officers or any security agency while they are responding to distress calls,” the CP stated.

The FCT Police Command urged residents, particularly youths in Kuchibyi, to remain law-abiding and avoid actions that could disrupt public peace or lead to further violence.
The command emphasized the importance of community cooperation in maintaining security across the capital.
“The youth must desist from acts capable of breaching the peace or inciting violence. They remain our dependable allies in the overall security of the FCT,” said SP Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command.
The police assured residents of their unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property within the FCT and promised to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
