In the wee hours of Monday, January 10, a team of policemen on duty in a Toyota Sienna vehicle with an unidentified number were allegedly attacked by unknown gunmen, and their vehicle set ablaze.
The Trumpet gathered that the police team were on patrol duty, journeying towards the Ekwulobia axis of Anambra state when unidentified gunmen doubled crossed them and engaged them in a gun battle. It was however gathered that no life was lost.
According to a tricyclist who spoke to our correspondent, but pleaded anonymity, he said “movement and business were ongoing as other days without any fear when the sound of gunshots were heard. This led to a chaotic situation, as vehicles and pedestrians all ran for their safety. But we thank God no one was killed, only the police vehicle was burnt by the unknown gunmen. This is a village, so we often get security challenges occasionally.”
Another source identified as Gabriella who spoke to our correspondent alleged that the boys who burnt the vehicle were fetish. According to her, “the police shot at them but the bullets were not penetrating. Though we later ran, but I wonder how they managed to get across to the vehicle to set it ablaze.”
The Anambra state police public relation officer as at press time could not be reached for confirmation.
