As preparations intensify for next month’s area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has declared that the internal cohesion within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is a strong indication that the party is headed for victory.
Mahmoud made the assertion on Friday during the flag-off of the APC’s electronic registration (e-registration) exercise at the Apo Community Town Hall in Abuja.
Addressing party stakeholders and supporters, the minister described the exercise as a landmark step in the APC’s quest for inclusiveness, innovation and democratic consolidation, expressing satisfaction with the turnout and level of engagement.
She commended the party’s leadership for initiating the e-registration process, noting that it reflects the APC’s determination to embrace technology, promote transparency and widen participation, especially among young people, ahead of the forthcoming elections.
“The APC was founded on progressive ideals of broad-based participation, internal democracy and responsive governance,” Mahmoud said, adding that the e-registration drive was not merely about boosting membership figures.

She said the initiative is aimed at strengthening party structures, updating its membership database and ensuring that members have a stronger voice in shaping the future of both the party and the country.
Mahmoud also highlighted the strategic importance of the FCT as the nation’s seat of power and a cultural melting pot, urging eligible residents, to either register as new members or update their records through what she described as a seamless process.
She stressed that wider participation would not only strengthen the APC but also deepen democratic practice in the territory.
The minister further reaffirmed the party’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, calling for unity, dynamism and a people-centred approach to governance.
She added that grassroots involvement remained the backbone of a strong political party, describing the e-registration exercise as a critical step in that direction.
The FCT Chairman of the APC, Abdulmalik Usman, said the exercise was being carried out in line with a directive from President Tinubu for the e-registration of party members nationwide.
Usman thanked party members for their large turnout, boasting that the APC continued to set the pace in the country’s political landscape.
The area council elections are expected to hold next month, with political activities gathering momentum across the territory.
