The University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor has officially welcomed 4,500 students into the 2024/2025 academic session with a call for discipline, dedication, and hard work to achieve academic success. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stella Chinye Chiemeke, led the matriculation ceremony at the Main Campus in Agbor, emphasizing UNIDEL’s mission to not only cultivate academic excellence but also instill character that contributes to national development.
Prof. Chiemeke underscored UNIDEL’s commitment to producing competent graduates who are equipped to tackle national and global challenges. “Our vision goes beyond academics; we foster an environment of growth, discovery, and transformation,” she stated, urging students to actively engage in both intellectual and extracurricular pursuits that nurture critical thinking and creativity.
Encouraging students to immerse themselves fully in university life, Prof. Chiemeke highlighted the importance of joining clubs, societies, and community service initiatives to develop leadership skills and a sense of responsibility. “Participate in activities that resonate with your passions. UNIDEL is a sanctuary for learning, not a battleground for violence or secrecy,” she warned, addressing the university’s strict stance against cultism, examination malpractice, and indecent dressing.

For parents and guardians, Prof. Chiemeke offered assurance: “Your investment in your children’s future will bear fruit as they grow into responsible, skilled citizens.”
Delivering a motivational lecture titled “Ten Times Better,” Ven. Barr. Engr. David Osaze Egbenusi, Chaplain of All Saints Chapel, University of Benin, encouraged students to prioritize academics over social distractions. He emphasized the importance of serious study habits and urged lecturers to positively impact their students, remain professional, and ensure their teachings are clear and effective.
The Registrar, Barr. Richmond Omagbemi, administered the Matriculation Oath, and selected students symbolically signed, representing their commitment to the institution’s values. New students Osamor Ebubechukeu Gift (International Relations) and Favour Umejiego (Health Education) expressed excitement about studying at UNIDEL, praising the university’s state-of-the-art facilities and supportive learning environment.
