In a significant development, the United Nations has reiterated its unwavering commitment to assist the Borno State Government in its ongoing efforts to rebuild and rehabilitate communities ravaged by the prolonged insurgency of Boko Haram.
Mohammed Mustapha Malik Fall, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria and Assistant Secretary General of the UN, conveyed this pledge during a visit to the Government House in Maiduguri.
During the visit, Fall acknowledged the substantial progress achieved by Borno State in fostering peace and development despite facing formidable challenges.
He praised Governor Zulum for his dedicated endeavours aimed at enhancing the welfare of the people of Borno.
Emphasizing the UN’s solidarity with the state, Fall assured Governor Zulum of the organization’s steadfast support in every endeavour aimed at improving the lives of the people of Borno.

Fall, who brings with him over two decades of experience in development, humanitarian, and peacebuilding initiatives, was appointed as the UN’s Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria just last week.
In response, Governor Zulum expressed appreciation for Mr. Fall’s visit and lauded his past contributions to the development of Borno and the broader northeastern region during his tenure as UNICEF’s country representative from 2016 to 2019.
Governor Zulum reiterated his administration’s commitment to facilitating the dignified return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes or other secure locations where they can sustain their livelihoods independently.
He affirmed his readiness to collaborate closely with the United Nations to ensure the simultaneous delivery of humanitarian aid and developmental initiatives for the benefit of the people of Borno State.
