In a bid to boost innovation and promote technological development in Nigeria, Hon. Ajirioghene Jonathan Ukodhiko, representing Isoko North and South Federal Constituency, presented a groundbreaking bill during the plenary session on October 15, 2024.

The bill, titled “A Bill for an Act to Repeal the Technology Business Incubation Foundation (Takeover) Act, to Provide for the Establishment of the National Agency for Technology Incubation and Other Related Matters (HB. 1055),” successfully passed its second reading and has now been referred to the relevant House Committees for further deliberation before its third reading.

Hon. Ukodhiko emphasized that the bill’s objective is to establish the National Agency for Technology Incubation, an institution designed to harness the globally recognized tools necessary to drive local and regional economic development. The agency aims to accelerate Nigeria’s economic growth through technology incubation, thus creating an environment conducive to technological innovation and enterprise.

“This bill represents a significant step forward in our commitment to fostering innovation and technological advancement in Nigeria,” Hon. Ukodhiko stated.

He added, “By establishing the National Agency for Technology Incubation, we are not only investing in our present capabilities but also securing our future as a nation that can compete on the global stage of technological innovation.”

The bill’s passage through the second reading marks a critical milestone as it progresses toward becoming law. If enacted, it is expected to play a key role in shaping Nigeria’s technological and economic landscape.
