President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to commence emergency repairs on the failing sections of the Warri-Benin segment of the East-West Road. This critical directive comes as relief to commuters and communities plagued by poor road conditions, particularly in the areas of Ibadulume, Amukpe Roundabout, Mosogar, and Ologbo.
NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, led an inspection of the ongoing repairs alongside the Commission’s Executive Director of Projects, Sir Victor Antai, and other senior officials. During the inspection, Ogbuku expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for responding swiftly to the public outcry over the road’s deplorable condition, which has caused significant hardship to road users.
Emergency Repairs in Full Swing
“Following President Tinubu’s directive, the NDDC has wasted no time in mobilizing a top civil engineering firm to begin remedial work on the worst sections of this vital road,” Ogbuku stated during the inspection. “This immediate intervention aims to alleviate the suffering of the people and prevent further traffic gridlock while the main contractor continues the long-term construction work.”
The NDDC’s swift action follows numerous media reports and appeals from the public regarding the dangerous state of the road, which connects vital economic hubs in the Niger Delta. Ogbuku acknowledged the Federal Government’s efforts in re-awarding the contract for the entire project, which had been abandoned for far too long. He assured commuters and residents that the repair work, supervised by the Federal Ministry of Works, would be completed to a high standard.

Communities Urged to Show Patience
Ogbuku called for patience and cooperation from local communities and commuters during the construction period. “We understand the challenges that come with these repairs, but the government is fully committed to completing this project as quickly as possible,” he said. “Our contractors are already on-site with the necessary equipment, and I assure everyone that the bad sections will be fixed in a short time—within two weeks, as promised by the contractor.”
Critical Road Repair in Progress
The construction firm handling the project, represented by Managing Director Mr. Adara Opeoluwa, provided updates to the NDDC inspection team, confirming that the three-kilometer stretch in Ibadulume, Amukpe Roundabout, Mosogar, and Ologbo is the focus of the current repairs. This portion has been a nightmare for drivers and travelers due to its deteriorated state.
The East-West Road, a major artery connecting several states in the region, has long been a source of frustration for motorists due to its persistent poor condition. The repairs not only aim to provide immediate relief but also signal the Federal Government’s commitment to long-term infrastructure development in the area.
