Former Kano State Governor and presidential candidate of the NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso has come under fire on Tuesday by U.S. Congressman, Rep. Riley Moore, who criticised the former governor for his comments on the alleged killing of Christians in Nigeria.

This came after Kwankwaso responded to Donald Trump’s comment of a possible swift military operation in Nigeria.

In a post shared on his official X handle, Rep. Moore accused Kwankwaso of policies that allegedly contributed to Christian persecution during his time as governor.

Moore claimed that Kwankwaso instituted Sharia law in Kano State, which he said made alleged blasphemy “punishable by death.”

Moore’s statement came after Kwankwaso had dismissed concerns raised by Trump when Nigeria was designated as a “Country Of Particular Concern” over religious persecution.

At the time, the former governor insisted that Nigeria’s insecurity was not based on religion or ethnicity, describing the U.S. decision as unnecessary interference.

Kwankwaso, while reacting to Nigeria’s recent designation as a Country of Particular Concern by U.S. President Donald Trump, and the accompanying threat of possible military action, dismissed claims of a targeted Christian genocide.

According to the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the insecurity affecting the country “does not distinguish based on religious, ethnic, or political beliefs.”
