President Donald Trump has warned that the United States will strike Iran “very hard” if tensions escalate further.
Speaking on Saturday, Trump said the United States military are reviewing additional targets inside Iran and are prepared to launch further military action if necessary.
The US president also claimed American forces had already dealt a significant blow to Iranian capabilities, stating that US operations had “knocked out 42 Iranian navy ships.”
Smoke was seen rising over parts of Tehran following reported airstrikes, although details about the scale of damage and casualties remain unclear.
The warning from Washington cones as Iran attempts to calm regional tensions.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian apologised to neighbouring Gulf states after attacks that have rattled the region and raised concerns about the safety of shipping routes and energy infrastructure.
