Nigerian soldiers have averted a potential national tragedy, rescuing 74 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) from the clutches of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists. The heart-stopping incident unfolded on the perilous Buratai-Kamuga road in Borno State, a route notorious for kidnappings and terrorist activity.

The crisis began when the buses carrying the young corps members, comprising 36 males and 38 females, broke down near a known insurgent hotspot. Stranded and vulnerable under the cover of darkness, their situation was dire. However, their salvation came from the eyes in the sky. A vigilant closed-circuit television (CCTV) system, being actively monitored by troops of the Joint Task Force, North East Operation Hadin Kai, detected the suspicious stationary vehicles and the flurry of movement around them at approximately 9:05 p.m. on Tuesday.

Responding with exceptional speed and precision, a military patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, the soldiers confirmed the worst fears: 74 prospective nation-builders were helplessly stranded in a danger zone, their vehicles immobilized by mechanical faults.

Military intelligence indicated a high probability that terrorist elements were poised to strike. The troops swiftly secured the area and evacuated all 74 corps members, foiling what was described as a “likely abduction attempt” by the deadly insurgents operating in the area.

This successful rescue has sent waves of relief across the country, highlighting both the persistent threats faced by youth and the improved vigilance of the military. The rescued NYSC members are now safe and being accommodated at the secure Buratai military base. Authorities are making further arrangements for their safe movement to their final destinations, ensuring the nation’s future leaders are protected after their terrifying ordeal.

The Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Sani Uba, confirmed the successful operation in a statement dated 13th November, 2025. This event stands as a powerful testament to the bravery and efficiency of the Nigerian troops committed to securing the nation’s future, one successful operation at a time.
