Troops on Tuesday killed scores of ISWAP terrorists, retrieving explosives, and foiling an attack in New Marte, Borno State.
The operation took place early on May 27, when the insurgents tried to invade the soldiers’ position.
According to the report, a gun battle broke out, but reinforcements from local army units quickly arrived to help push back the attackers.
The troops received additional support from the air force, which provided important information and launched air strikes.
Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, headquarters theatre command of ‘Operation Hadin Kai’, Capt. Reuben Kovangiya, said in a statement on Tuesday that the troops were supported by the air component of ‘Operation Hadin Kai’, which provided real-time intelligence, surveillance, and offensive air strikes.

“These air strikes targeting the insurgents destroyed several motorcycles and led the soldiers to recover a vehicle filled with explosives that the attackers had abandoned during their retreat.
“In their search of the area, troops also found the bodies of some terrorists and noticed signs of others who had been injured, indicated by blood trails,” the statement said.
However, Capt. Kovangiya, confirmed that two soldiers lost their lives in the fight.
In another operation, he said troops defended a military base in Kumshe from another attack, resulting in the deaths of several terrorists in that confrontation.
The army emphasised that these successful operations showcase better teamwork between ground forces and the air force.
