Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), said they have successfully dismantled a notorious criminal network in Karim Lamido Local Government Council of Taraba State.
The operation, which according to the statement dished out to media men by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Oni Olubodunde, in Jalingo, the state capital, was said to have led to the arrest of two suspects.
The feat, according to the soldiers, was achieved following the credible information made available to the troops by some good Samaritans.
“Acting on credible intelligence, the troops launched a well-coordinated raid targeting a criminal syndicate linked to multiple violent crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal arms trading.
The operation led to the arrest of a key gang member, identified as Malam Ali Tambaya, in Wanzani village. Tambaya was found in possession of an AK-47 rifle and 42 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
During the initial investigation, Tambaya, as stated by the release, “admitted to acquiring the rifle five years ago from one Alhaji Dandi for N500,000.

Adding that, “he also confessed to purchasing the ammunition at N1,000 per round.
“Tambaya further revealed that he was given 38 rounds of ammunition by another individual, Alhaji Kiwo, for safekeeping. Following this information, troops apprehended Alhaji Dandi, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest Alhaji Kiwo.
While commending the troops for their swift and decisive actions, the Brigade , through the Commandant, reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating criminal elements in Taraba and restoring peace and stability in the region.
He admonished the public to continue providing timely and accurate information to security forces, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the military and civilians in achieving long-term peace.
