A yet-to-be-identified woman has died after jumping off the Third Mainland Bridge into the water near the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront, despite swift rescue efforts by marine police.
The tragic incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Thursday, sending shockwaves across Lagos. Marine police officers stationed nearby quickly retrieved the woman from the water and rushed her to medical personnel at UNILAG. Unfortunately, she was declared dead upon arrival.

Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police Command spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin stated that officers from the Sabo Police Division witnessed the unfortunate development. The woman’s remains have since been transferred to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba for preservation.
Authorities have yet to determine her identity, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the circumstances leading to the tragic event.
