Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of securing one of the most exciting transfers of the summer, with RB Leipzig forward Xavi Simons set to complete a £51.8 million move to north London.

Reports from England suggest the Dutch international has already undergone his medical ahead of the switch, with final details expected to be confirmed within the next 24 hours. The 22-year-old is poised to become one of Thomas Frank’s marquee signings as Spurs strengthen their squad for the new season.

Simons had been linked with Chelsea earlier in the window, but the Blues shifted focus to a £40 million deal for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho. Tottenham, meanwhile, moved swiftly to secure Simons, who is expected to line up alongside new arrivals Joao Palhinha and Mohammed Kudus.

The failed pursuit of Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and the loss of Eberechi Eze to rivals Arsenal had raised concerns about Spurs’ transfer strategy, but the capture of Simons marks a significant statement of intent.

A product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, Simons moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2019 before flourishing on loan at PSV in the 2022/23 season. At Leipzig, he scored 22 goals and provided 24 assists in 78 matches, cementing his reputation as one of Europe’s brightest attacking prospects.

This transfer also continues the Bundesliga-to-Premier League pipeline, following Benjamin Sesko’s £73.7 million move from Leipzig to Manchester United earlier in the summer.

Simons’ journey has long captured global attention. Named after Barcelona legend Xavi Hernández, he was a child prodigy who gained international fame by the age of 14 with a Nike sponsorship, over a million Instagram followers, and appearances in adverts alongside Neymar and Ronaldinho. At PSG, Neymar treated him like a younger brother, but limited opportunities saw him look elsewhere for regular football.

Now set for the Premier League, the versatile attacker, capable of playing on both wings or as an advanced midfielder, will bring creativity and flair to Tottenham’s forward line. Simons has already represented the Netherlands 28 times and made history at the 2022 Qatar World Cup by becoming the youngest Dutch player to feature in a knockout stage match.

With the deal nearing completion, Spurs fans are eagerly anticipating the official announcement of Xavi Simons, a player tipped to light up the Premier League and become one of the defining signings of the 2025 transfer window.
