President Bola Tinubu requests that the House of Representatives consider and approve a budget allocation of N1.481 trillion for Rivers State for the year 2025.
This request was presented during a plenary session in Abuja on Thursday, where it was read by the Speaker of the House, Rep. Tajudeen Abbas.
This financial request comes in the context of a state of emergency declared by President Tinubu on March 18, a significant and unusual action aimed at addressing the escalating political unrest and security threats in the oil-rich Niger Delta region.

This declaration reflects the government’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in an area that has faced numerous challenges over the years.
President Tinubu appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas as the military administrator tasked with overseeing the state’s operations for an initial period of six months.
Ibas’ military background is expected to bring a level of discipline and focus to the administration of the state during this critical time.
The constitutional basis for this request rests on Section 11(4) of the Constitution, which grants the National Assembly the authority to legislate on behalf of a state when its legislature is unable to operate effectively.
