President Tinubu urged the Senate to consider and confirm the nominee without delay, noting that Prof. Fashina’s curriculum vitae had been forwarded alongside the nomination documents for legislative scrutiny.
Following the announcement, Akpabio referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs for further consideration and directed the committee to submit its report within one week.
If confirmed, Prof. Fashina will join the ranks of Nigeria’s diplomatic representatives as a non-career ambassador/high commissioner.
The nomination brings the number of ambassadorial appointments made by President Tinubu to 70, following the earlier nomination and confirmation of 69 ambassadors and high commissioners by the Senate.
Prof. Fashina previously served as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, where he oversaw academic and administrative affairs before the completion of his tenure.
