Tinubu Nominates Ex-FUOYE Vice Chancellor as Non-Career Ambassador

President Bola Tinubu has nominated former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Fashina, for appointment as a non-career ambassador/high commissioner.

  2. The nomination was formally communicated to the Senate through a letter read by Godswill Akpabio during plenary.
  3. President Tinubu urged the Senate to expedite the confirmation process, noting that Prof. Fashina’s credentials had been submitted for legislative scrutiny.
  4. The Senate President referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, directing it to submit its report within one week.
  5. If confirmed, Prof. Fashina will become the 70th ambassadorial appointment made by President Tinubu, following the earlier nomination and confirmation of 69 ambassadors and high commissioners.

The nomination was formally conveyed to the Senate in a letter read during plenary by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

According to the letter, the nomination was made in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.

President Tinubu urged the Senate to consider and confirm the nominee without delay, noting that Prof. Fashina’s curriculum vitae had been forwarded alongside the nomination documents for legislative scrutiny.

Following the announcement, Akpabio referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs for further consideration and directed the committee to submit its report within one week.

If confirmed, Prof. Fashina will join the ranks of Nigeria’s diplomatic representatives as a non-career ambassador/high commissioner.

The nomination brings the number of ambassadorial appointments made by President Tinubu to 70, following the earlier nomination and confirmation of 69 ambassadors and high commissioners by the Senate.

Prof. Fashina previously served as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, where he oversaw academic and administrative affairs before the completion of his tenure.
