President Bola Tinubu has welcomed the Senate’s approval of General Christopher Musa as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence, describing the confirmation as a timely step for a nation still contending with wide-ranging security pressures. The President released a signed statement on his X account on Thursday, praising the lawmakers for acting without delay.

Tinubu noted that he forwarded Musa’s name only two days earlier, calling the former Chief of Defence Staff a tested officer whose experience is needed at a sensitive moment. He added that the Senate’s prompt action reflects a shared commitment to strengthening national security.

In his message, the President stressed that Musa’s arrival at the Defence Ministry aligns with the urgency of current challenges and would help drive reforms aimed at stabilising troubled regions. He closed with a call for unity as the country works to restore peace and confidence in its security institutions.
