Other FEC Decisions and Highway Update
Umahi also said FEC approved the full business case for the operation and maintenance concession of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and directed reconstruction with concrete pavement on failed sections along the Ibadan axis.
The minister separately reported that the first 118-kilometre section of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Highway, valued at ₦137 billion, had been completed. That was a completion update, not a new approval in the June announcement.
The Federal Government said the road programme is intended to strengthen connections between states, ease the movement of people and goods, and support economic activity. The project details and costs were reported by The Punch.
Army Announces Three Planned Barracks in Oyo and Osun
In a separate development reported on October 2, 2026, Major General Auwalu Mahmuda, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division, said three barracks were planned: a Brigade and Garrison Barracks in Oyo town, a Battalion Barracks in Kisi, Oyo State, and an Artillery Regiment Barracks in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Mahmuda made the disclosure during a visit to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade I. The first troops had arrived at a temporary site in Oyo ahead of the permanent facility. The GOC said the Kisi and Ile-Ife facilities would be supervised by the Oyo Brigade and Garrison. New Telegraph reported the barracks details.
The barracks plans are a separate security announcement from the June road-project approvals.
