In a bid to enhance agricultural productivity and alleviate the challenges faced by farmers, the Taraba State government has announced its plans to distribute the first batch of tractor units to farmers across the state.
Speaking to journalists in Jalingo, on Friday, Professor Nicholas Namessan, the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, revealed that the government, under the leadership of governor Agbu Kefas, has finalized arrangements to distribute 100 Cabrio and 750 units of mini tractors to farmers.
The distributions, according to the Commissioner, is scheduled to commence on May 28, 2024.
The commissioner highlighted that the government has developed a comprehensive template for the distribution, ensuring that the tractors reach farmers across all 16 local government areas of the state at a subsidized rate.
He further disclosed that 60 home-based engineers have undergone training by their Ghanaian counterparts to assemble, maintain, and operate the tractors.

Additionally, these engineers, as announced by him, will train farmers on how to effectively utilize and maintain the machinery.
Governor Kefas, as further stated by him has outlined plans to subsidize the prices of fertilizers and herbicides, further supporting farmers in their quest to enhance food production in Taraba.
Assuring transparency and accountability in the distribution process, Prof. Namessan emphasized that the tractors would be allocated directly to genuine farmers, aligning with the government’s commitment to eradicating hunger and improving food security in Taraba State.
