The Elders Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State has intervened to mend the rift n the party, cautioning a group allegedly led by Victor Falack against actions that could undermine the unity within the party.
Addressing journalists over the weekend in Jalingo, Chairman of the forum, John Mamman, dismissed reports of a parallel leadership structure within the party, describing such claims as misleading and without foundation.
“There is no faction in Taraba PDP. Since 1999, when Nigeria returned to democratic governance, our party in this state has remained united.
“What we are witnessing is a deliberate attempt to create confusion and impose a fake mandate on the people,” Mamman said.
The elders characterized the alleged factional activities as an affront to loyal party members and the electorate, stressing that leadership positions must be attained through transparent, grassroots-driven democratic processes.
Mamman affirmed that the current state leadership, under Obidah Bitrus, was duly elected and continues to enjoy widespread support across Taraba State.
He maintained that any group lacking such a mandate would not be recognized by the party.
“We will not allow anyone to hijack this party. The mandate of our leaders comes from the people, not from self-appointed arrangements,” he warned.
The forum also called on security agencies to remain vigilant against any development that could threaten peace and political stability in the state, noting that unity within the ruling structure is crucial to sustaining development and public confidence.

Despite reports of political realignments and defections in other parts of the country, the elders insisted that the PDP remains a dominant political force in Taraba, with its internal structure intact.
Mamman urged party faithful to rally behind the state leadership, expressing confidence in the PDP’s direction and readiness for future political contests.
Political observers say the elders’ intervention signals a firm resolve by the party’s leadership to consolidate unity, discourage splinter groups, and reinforce internal discipline ahead of upcoming elections.
