The Taraba State Basketball Association (TSBA) have called for a unified approach to address the challenges facing the sport. This appeal was made during a significant event held yesterday at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo, where a Japan-based basketball player, Mbonu Lordprince Chinonso, donated basketballs to the state.
The presentation, which took place at the office of the State Director of Sports, George Shitta, gathered basketball veterans and enthusiasts from across the state. The donation by Chinonso, who credits Taraba State for playing a key role in his early career, served as a catalyst for discussions on the future of basketball in the region.
Danjuma Musa Goyo, Chairman of TSBA, expressed excitement over the donation and stressed the importance of a unified strategy to tackle the existing challenges in Taraba’s basketball community. He called for stronger collaboration between business organizations, government officials, and sports stakeholders to foster a sustainable and inclusive sports environment.
“The growth of basketball in Taraba State hinges on our ability to come together and work towards a common goal,” Goyo emphasized. “By involving all stakeholders, including the private sector and government, we can create opportunities that will benefit athletes and the entire community.”
Supporting Goyo’s position, the State Director of Sports, George Shitta, echoed the need for collaboration to drive positive change and ensure the long-term success of basketball in Taraba. He urged all stakeholders to align with the state government’s vision of elevating sports to new heights.
Mbonu Lordprince Chinonso, originally from Anambra State, shared that his decision to donate the basketballs was a way of giving back to the Taraba State basketball team, the Sports Council, and the State Ministry of Sports, all of whom played crucial roles in his development as an athlete. He encouraged other athletes to contribute to the communities that have supported their growth and success.
As the call for unity resonates throughout the basketball community in Taraba, the hope is that this collaborative effort will lead to the revitalization of the sport, offering new opportunities for young talents and strengthening the state’s position in Nigeria’s basketball landscape.Ebonyi Rep pays bail expenses of 75 inmates
