Reality television personality Natacha Akide, widely known as Tacha, has reacted strongly after Mirabel publicly admitted that her earlier allegation of rape was untrue.
Taking to her verified X account, formerly Twitter, Tacha said false claims involving serious offences such as rape or assault carry grave consequences and must not be treated lightly. Her response has since generated widespread debate across social media platforms.
Tacha called on law enforcement agencies responsible for handling sexual offence cases to investigate the matter and ensure that appropriate action is taken. She argued that failing to address false accusations could weaken public trust in genuine victims who come forward with legitimate complaints.

In her post, Tacha stressed that accountability is essential in cases involving sensitive criminal allegations. She maintained that allowing fabricated claims to go without consequence could embolden those who trivialise sexual violence and complicate efforts to secure justice for survivors.
The controversy erupted after Mirabel acknowledged that her earlier claim of being assaulted was false. The admission has sparked mixed reactions online, with some users echoing Tacha’s call for legal consequences, while others urged caution and restraint in public commentary.
Legal experts note that false reporting of serious crimes can carry penalties under Nigerian law, though each case depends on the outcome of police investigations and prosecutorial review. Advocacy groups also warn that public disputes over false claims should not discourage genuine victims from reporting abuse.
As the conversation continues, Tacha’s remarks have placed renewed focus on the broader issue of accountability, due process and the impact of false allegations on both accused persons and actual survivors.
