The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on Muslims across Nigeria to be on the lookout for the new moon that will signal the commencement of the 2026 Ramadan fast.
In a message addressed to the Muslim community, the sultan advised anyone who sights the moon to promptly report the observation to designated Islamic authorities for proper verification in line with established religious guidelines.
The appeal forms part of the traditional Islamic process for determining the beginning of Ramadan, which is anchored on the physical sighting of the moon in accordance with the Islamic principles.
