The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Taraba State University (TSU) chapter, has given Governor Agbu Kefas and the university management a two-week deadline to resolve outstanding issues in a memorandum of action or face an indefinite strike.
The ultimatum was contained in a communiqué issued after the union’s congress, jointly signed by SSANU Chairperson, Comrade Bitrus Ajibauka, and Secretary, Mamki Joshua Atein.
The union accused the state government of failing to honour the agreement it signed on January 25, 2025, which stipulated that a meeting with SSANU leadership be held in the first week of February to agree on a payment plan for salary arrears.
The delay, SSANU said, is a “clear violation” of the agreement and could trigger a resumption of the strike suspended on January 26, 2025, after more than a month of industrial action.

The association’s demands include payment of outstanding September and October 2022 salaries, settlement of withheld portions of June, November, and December 2022 salaries, payment of 90% of accumulated Earned Administrative Allowances (EAA), and implementation of the approved State-Defined Pension Scheme for TSU staff, covering benefits for deceased and retired workers.
The communiqué also revealed that a reminder letter was sent to the state government on February 14, 2025, but no action was taken.
“Failure to meet our demands within two weeks from August 7 will leave the union with no choice but to resume the earlier suspended strike,” the statement read, adding that SSANU would act “in line with its constitution and extant laws” if the ultimatum expires without resolution.
