Italy’s Tennis star Jannik Sinner has surged back to the summit of men’s tennis after defeating defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in a gripping final at the Monte Carlo Masters.

Sinner secured a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 victory in challenging, windy conditions, marking his return to the world No.1 ranking for the first time since November.

The high-stakes clash between the top two players delivered intensity throughout, with both stars struggling at times to control their shots, combining for 83 unforced errors.

The 24-year-old Italian now claims his third Masters 1000 title of the season adding Monte Carlo to earlier triumphs at Indian Wells and Miami while extending an impressive 22-match winning streak in Masters events.

Reflecting on the win, Sinner highlighted the challenge of adapting to clay, noting the week as a learning curve that culminated in a major breakthrough on the surface.

The match itself remained finely balanced early on, with neither player able to dominate. However, Sinner edged a crucial first-set tie-break before capitalising on inconsistent serving from Alcaraz in the second set to seal his 27th ATP Tour title.

Elsewhere, rising Russian star Mirra Andreeva staged a comeback to defeat Anastasia Potapova 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 and win the Linz Open.

Despite a slow start, the 18-year-old turned the match around to claim her fifth WTA title, showing resilience as the tournament played on clay for the first time tested players’ adaptability.
