Showdown in Benin airport as passengers hold Air Peace workers hostage

By Emumena Michael

There is pandemonium at Benin City Airport as stranded passengers are currently holding Air Peace flight attendants to ransom, The Trumpet can report authoritatively.

Trouble started when passengers scheduled to fly from Benin to Lagos on the 31st of May were made to wait for over 24hrs at the Benin City Airport.

Our correspondent, who is on the ground at the airport, interviewed aggrieved passengers who vowed to storm the main runway if any Air Peace flight tries to go to other destinations until they have been airlifted to Lagos.

“This Air Peace guys are highly unprofessional. Imagine that one of them who came to announce the delay, speaking as if he was addressing children. Today, no flight will go anywhere until we go to Lagos,” one of the aggrieved passengers said angrily.

Meanwhile, one of the Airpeace staff who spoke to our correspondent in a condition of anonymity when quizzed, said the flight became faulty at take off, and it was grounded instead of a mishap.

“You can see the flight on the runway, and we can not allow passengers to be in danger because they are angry. The company is sending another flight, but as you know, all the flights were already scheduled for various routes. The disruption the faulty aircraft has cost the company is massive. We can only appeal for their understanding,” he said.

As at the time of filing this report the situation still persist.
