Vice-President Kashim Shettima has traveled from Abuja to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, to represent Nigeria at an important United Nations (UN) Food Systems Summit taking place from July 27 to 29.
Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, shared this information in a statement released on Sunday.
Shettima will meet with leaders from around the world to discuss how to improve coffee production in Nigeria and strengthen the country’s efforts to ensure food security. The summit aims to review the progress made since the first Food Systems Summit in 2021 and to encourage commitments toward creating strong, inclusive, and sustainable food systems globally.

In addition to the main events, Shettima will attend various smaller gatherings designed to showcase real-life examples of improving food systems, encourage sharing of knowledge, and build partnerships. One of these smaller events includes discussions on how public finance, trade, and responsible investments can help accelerate progress in food transformation.
Nkwocha mentioned that Shettima’s delegation has three main goals: to position Nigeria as a leader in reforming food systems in Africa, to build international partnerships that align with Nigeria’s own goals, and to promote a private sector-driven approach to transforming food systems on the continent.
This summit is organized in collaboration with the United Nations and the governments of Ethiopia and Italy. After participating in these important discussions and activities at the summit, Vice-President Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria.
