The former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the eight-year tenure of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
At a press conference in Kaduna, Sani accused El-Rufai of financial impropriety, misuse of power, and causing hardship during his time in office from 2015 to 2023.
He urged the EFCC to take action following the Kaduna State House of Assembly’s reported indictment of the former governor.
“The EFCC must take immediate action to ensure that all allegations are thoroughly investigated. No one is above the law,” Sani stated.
He asserted that the state faced demolitions, increased insecurity, and policies that led to suffering among its residents during El-Rufai’s administration.
Sani also expressed concern over the alleged arrests of journalists, activists, and religious leaders under the previous government.
Additionally, Sani called on security forces to enhance their efforts to determine the whereabouts of political activist Abubakar Idris, known as Dadiyata, who has been missing since 2019.

Sani’s remarks followed El-Rufai’s recent criticism of the current administration during a television interview.
He pointed out the inconsistency in El-Rufai’s stance, noting that the former governor had supported President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections.
He also commended the current Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, for what he described as improvements in state security.
El-Rufai has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, asserting that his administration was focused on reforms and fiscal responsibility in Kaduna State.
