Veteran Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has stirred conversations on social media after sharing her opinion on commercial sex work and the survival struggles faced by some women.
Speaking during an appearance on the Morayo Show, the actress said she does not judge women involved in “runs” or commercial sex work, especially those who turn to it because of financial hardship or the need to support their families.
According to Shaffy Bello, life presents different realities to different people, and many women engaging in such activities are often trying to survive difficult economic conditions.
The actress, however, advised women not to remain permanently in that lifestyle, stressing that it should only serve as a temporary means of survival and not a long-term path.
In her words:
“If what you are doing now is being a ‘runs girl’ to make money, you don’t have to stay there. I understand it; I never judge.”
“If you go be ash*wo, do am well. Do it well with respect and your full chest.”
“However, don’t stay there.”
Her comments have since triggered mixed reactions on X, with users debating whether her remarks reflected empathy or indirectly encouraged prostitution.
