Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has renamed The Polytechnic Ibadan in honour of the late Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, a former governor of the state.

This announcement was made during a memorial service for Olunloyo, which took place at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan.

In his address, Governor Makinde emphasized that the renaming of the institution stands as a testament to Olunloyo’s invaluable contributions to education and governance, particularly highlighting his role as the first rector of The Polytechnic Ibadan.

The governor praised Olunloyo for his visionary leadership and his relentless dedication to the development of Oyo State, noting that his efforts have had a lasting impact both during his time in office and in the years that followed.

The governor praised Olunloyo as a skilled leader and a deeply patriotic person who valued his culture. He encouraged Olunloyo’s children to follow in their father’s footsteps and embrace his positive qualities.

During the service, retired Methodist Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu urged everyone to live a good and moral life. He also called on political leaders to make a positive difference in society through their roles.

Late Dr. Olunloyo, who passed away on April 6 at the age of 89, just days to his 90th birthday, is remembered not only for his brief gubernatorial tenure but also for his profound impact on the educational landscape as an administrator and his unwavering commitment to the development of Oyo State.
