American tennis icons Serena Williams and Venus Williams are set for a sensational reunion at Wimbledon, after Serena was handed a wildcard entry to compete in the women’s doubles alongside her sister.
Key Highlights:
The announcement marks Serena’s first appearance at Wimbledon since 2022 and adds another dramatic chapter to her unexpected return to professional tennis.
The 44-year-old, a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, had previously stepped away from the sport after the 2022 US Open, saying she was “evolving away” from tennis.
However, she recently reversed that decision, returning to competition last week at Queen’s Club, where she partnered with Canada’s Victoria Mboko to win her opening doubles match.

Although her comeback at the Queen’s Club Championships was briefly disrupted after Mboko withdrew due to injury, Serena is continuing her return to top-level tennis and is also scheduled to compete at the Berlin Open alongside Karolina Muchova.
The Williams sisters remain one of the most successful doubles pairings in tennis history, having won six Wimbledon doubles titles together.
Their last joint appearance at the tournament ended with a championship victory more than a decade ago.
While speculation had grown over whether Serena might also receive a singles wildcard for Wimbledon, she was notably absent from the entry list for the singles draw.
With ranking points no longer available to her after years away from the tour, she has been relying on wildcard invitations to re-enter elite competition.
One remaining singles wildcard for Wimbledon is yet to be announced, leaving room for further surprise developments ahead of the tournament’s start on June 29.
Serena’s return alongside Venus is expected to draw massive global attention, rekindling one of tennis’s most celebrated sibling partnerships on the sport’s biggest stage.
