The Senate has approved the nominations of Sen. Olubunmi Adetunmbi and Dr. Charles Akinola to lead the South-West Development Commission (SWDC), along with 16 other members who will join the board.
This decision came after the Senate discussed and reviewed a report from the committee responsible for the SWDC during a session on Thursday.
The committee chairman, Sen. Yunus Akintunde from Oyo State, presented the report.
The other members confirmed to be part of the board include Bolaji Ariyo from Lagos, Joseph Olugbenga from Ekiti, Scholastica Omoworare from Osun, Olumuyiwa Olabimtan from Ogun, Adewinle Martins from Ondo, and Ibrahim Olaifa from Oyo. Additionally, members from other regions were also confirmed: Kabiru Lakwaya and Abdul Adamu from the North-West, Akinola Fagbemi from the North-Central, Ukoha Onyekwere from the South-East, and Alwell Ihenacho from the South-South.

The Senate also confirmed several executive directors, including Olugbenga Olufehinti overseeing projects from Ondo, Tele Ogunjobi in charge of finance from Ogun, Funmilayo Tejuosho responsible for corporate services from Lagos, Fatai Ibikunle managing commercial and environmental development from Oyo, and Lateef Ajijola focusing on social and human capital development from Ekiti.
In his presentation, Akintunde explained that the committee carefully reviewed the nominees’ qualifications, work experience, and integrity before making their recommendations.
He noted that there were no negative reports or complaints regarding the nominees.
The committee found that all nominess met the necessary requirements and were suitable for their roles in the SWDC, leading to the Senate’s confirmation of their appointments.
