Russian Daniil Medvedev, who recently slid from the world number one position after he recorded a disappointing defeat at Indian Wells, is on course to regain the tennis ace rank in the Miami Open.
Medvedev, prior to his ascension to the world number one rank, maintained a close chase on the points of Serb Novak Djokovic, the then world number one before recent events unfolded. Djokovic, had in the Dubai Duty Free Championship lost to Czechia Jiri Vesely in the quarter-finals on 24 February, 2022 to lose the number one position to Medvedev who trailed behind at second.
However, the Russian could not hold on to the position for long as he was defeated in the third round of the Miami Open 4-6 6-3 6-1 by Gael Monfils in California to concede the world number one ranking to Serb Novak Djokovic.
Despite the brief spell, Medvedev is on track to regain the accolade with only two more wins in the Miami Open to soar as the tennis world’s number 1 figure The Trumpet gathered.

Medvedev said: “I think in general I played not so bad, they are really slow courts here so playing against a Spaniard is not easy.
“I felt like we had a lot of rallies where he was bringing the pace down in the points and I couldn’t do much.
