The Rotary Clubs of Port Harcourt Passport, District 9141 and the Rotary E- Club Hamburg – Connect District 1890, have empowered two hundred and fifty-three women and youths in Obuama, Harry’s Town in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State, with various skills to increase their access to stable life.
The Rotary International District 9141 Governor, Andy Uwejeyan, while commissioning the facility, lauded the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt and the Rotary E-Club Hamburg District 1890 for completing the project and improving the welfare of the community dwellers. While addressing the beneficiaries he congratulated them for accepting to be trained and for successful completion of the training process.

While inspecting some of the products crafted by the beneficiaries Rotarian Uwejeyan commended them for being focused throughout the training. He, however, advised them to use the skills gained to improve their source of livelihood and also create job opportunities by training others.
On her part, President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Passport, who equally spoke on behalf of the Rotary E- club Hamburg – Connect, Preba Babalola, said the project aims to support the vulnerable and displaced families amid the economic hardship as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The women and youths were trained in fish farming, poultry, snail farming and bead making craft. The impact of the project is the youths will have access to education and basic necessities, using the immediate and long term sustainable livelihood interventions.
“Big thanks to our Rotary leaders, members of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt, Passport, members of Rotary E- club Hamburg- Connect (in spirit), AGs, members of the Rotary Club of Trans Amadi and other Rotarians from District 9141 who were able to come out to support our club. Together we serve to change lives,” she said.
The project tagged “Community Empowerment and Skills Development ln Response To Covid-19” is a global grant project.
