Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has shared the story behind one of the most memorable moments in his marriage, revealing that he once handed his wife the biggest cheque of his career, worth ₦100 million.
Speaking during an appearance on The Morayo Show, the 65-year-old actor said the gesture reflected his evolving understanding of romance, noting that expressions of love change with age.
According to RMD, when he received the ₦100 million cheque, he immediately instructed that it be given to his wife.
However, she initially assumed the money was meant to be kept for their children.
“The first time I had the biggest cheque I’ve ever had in my life, I had like a ₦100 million cheque. So I said, give it to my wife.

“When she got it, she said, you want me to keep it for your children? So I said, no, keep it for yourself,” he recalled.
The actor jokingly added that while flowers and chocolates may have once been considered the height of romance, many women now appreciate financial gestures even more.
Describing himself as an “incurable romantic,” RMD said his wife deserved the gift, stressing that genuine love is expressed in different ways at different stages of life.
The screen icon also reflected on turning 65, describing every birthday as a blessing because both of his parents died before reaching the age of 60.
“I feel like I’m living in extra time right now. My parents didn’t make 60. My life is one of gratitude. I’m happy to be alive,” he said.
RMD attributed his youthful appearance to gratitude, healthy living and maintaining a positive outlook on life.
