The minority caucus of the House of Representatives has paid tribute to the late Deputy Chief Whip of the House, Rep. Adewunmi Onanuga, who died on January 15, 2025, after a brief illness.
The caucus in a condolence message on Friday, by Rep. Kingsley Chinda and other minority leaders of the House, described the late Rep. Onanuga as an outstanding lawmaker and resourceful politician whose death has left the caucus members heartbroken.
It declared that the House has lost a valuable asset whose unique contributions to debates and assignments, unflinching forthrightness on developmental issues, and unrestrained support for all, regardless of party affinity, ethnicity, and religion were unparalleled.
“She (Onanuga) was a natural bridge-builder, resilient politician, and altruistic personality who at all times, exhibited unusual interest, and uncommon support in the realization of the 10th House legislative agenda, and the personal development of members.
“Though very painful that we lost her at a time when her unfeigned interventions to national development and meaningful transformation of Nigeria are most needed, we take solace in the fact that while in the House of Representatives, she distinguished herself creditably.

“From our interactions with her as members of the leadership, and colleagues in the 10th House of Representatives, she was very dedicated and committed to her responsibilities.
“Through her legislative position, and various intervention initiatives, Adewunmi Onanuga positively touched the lives of people not only in her constituency but in Ogun State, across the South West zone, and Nigeria. It is gratifying that she was a beacon of hope, source of inspiration, and shining light to diverse people.
“Though pained about her shocking eclipse from earth but as mere mortals, we submit to the tenets of the Almighty; who gives and takes when He wills.
“Also, we pray that God will not only repose her soul but grant her eternal peace. It is our prayers that our Creator will not only comfort her immediate and entire family, but grant us all the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, Amen.
“Adieu, our dear friend, colleague, and associate, Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga,” the caucus stated.
