Price of refilling cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), otherwise known as cooking gas rose by 83.62 per cent from N2,057 in March 2021, the latest report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has shown.
The report showed that the average price for refilling a 5kg cylinder of LPG stood at N3,778 in March 2022 from N3,708 in February 2022, an increase of 1.88 per cent month-on-month.
The average price for refilling a 12.5kg cylinder of LPG increased to N7,617 in March 2022 from N7,447 in February 2022 representing a 2.2 8 per cent month-on-month increase.
Similarly, on a year-on-year basis, the average retail price for refilling a 12.5kg cooking gas increase by 74.75 per cent from N4,359 in March 2021.
Analysis of state survey showed that the highest average price for refilling a 5kg cylinder of LPG was recorded in Ekiti with N4,200, followed by Niger State with N4, 163 and Imo State with N4,150, while Adamawa recorded the lowest average price with N2,604 followed by Yobe and Kano with N2,740.
Prices analysed on zonal basis showed that the average retail price for refilling a 5kg cylinder of LPG was highest in the South -East with N3,992, followed by the South West with N 3,900 and South-South N3, 877, while the North East recorded the lowest average retail price with N3,419.
The state analysis showed that the highest average retail price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder of LPG was recorded in Osun at N8,782 followed by Oyo with N8,400 and Katsina with N8,300.
Also, the lowest average price for the refilling of 12.5kg cylinder of LPG was recorded in Borno at N6,100 followed by Akwa Ibom and Cross River states at N6,840.
The average retail price of a 12.5kg cylinder of cooking gas by zones showed that the average retail price was highest in the South West with N7,892.40 followed by the North West with N7,657, N7,656 and N7,533, while the South-South zone recorded the lowest price at N7,091.
